Need paint color help!

Hi - I seriously need help to choose a paint color for the walls in my family room. The room is right off the kitchen, which will be renovated this year (plans are already drawn up).

As you can see in the photos....I love the fabric that I have hung up on the wall and the persimmon color of the Chinese vase, which I carried to the couch.

Kitchen will be have white cabinets (Dove White) and I'm thinking that the wall color will be a light blue (Woodlawn Blue, Palladian Blue or Glass Slipper).

Moulding will all be Dove White.

*the framed railings on the ground in one of the photos will be turned into a coffee table....didn't make it yet :)

Since the kitchen and living area are open to one another, I'd think about painting both rooms in the same color family or at least colors of similar saturation. For example, you could go with glass slipper in the kitchen and find a similarly saturated grey with some blue in it for the living area. I found this pic which pretty much represents your color scheme of off white, red and blue.

The wall color is Glass Slipper by BM. I think it looks nice. You may have to fiddle with the blue color a bit to find the one that works best. I recommend getting a few samples pots and painting some large poster boards to mount on the wall.

Oh jubee, watch that woodlawn blue! My cousin used it in her foyer and it majorly fluctuates with lighting. It has a very cool undertone and that sometimes looks institutional and cold. I'd suggest going with something that has a warm undertone. I'll try to put on my thinking cap, hope that Charmean checks out your post...she gives awesome color advice!

Yes, Jamieson - I was thinking a warm blue would work best because of the ivory sofas.

Thanks Manon and Jamieson! What great advice - good to know that Woodlawn has a propensity to fluctuate. My kitchen and family room tend to be dark due to the position of the house, so Glass Slipper could be a good choice.

Manon brought up a good point - because the rooms are so open, do I stay with the same color or use a gray or green in a similar saturation?

Hi-I definitely think blue would be great in this space as well as in the kitchen. The blue has to be the right hue because if it's too warm it will look green against your cream sofa. If too cool, it will look grayish purple or gray/green. I'm going to give you 4 colors---2 on each paint chip---pick up the paint chips and check them with your sofa. Any of the 14 colors on the chips can be used in adjacent rooms. Blue is very calming and when paired with persimmon, it's just divine. Colors: SW 6225 Sleepy Blue, SW 6226 Languid Blue, SW 6218 Tradewind, and SW 6219 Rain. Have Fun!
