Designing around an air conditioner in a condo

Help! This is my living room/dining room. The door leads out onto a patio so it can't really be barred by anything. And yes, that light is placed in the middle of nowhere. The wall opposite the air conditioning unit is just one long wall without any windows. There is a big bay window to the left of the image, and my open kitchen with an island is to the right. How should I arrange furniture here? The attached picture with the furniture is not mine but gives you an idea of what the room size is.

For furniture I have 2 three-person sofas, side tables, a huge 48'' flatscreen tv, and a console table, and an old country style oval kitchen table that can seat 4.

Ideas?

Camouflaging the air conditioning unit with an interesting screen may be an option for you.

I'm thinking that your sofas could go in an L configuration with one in front of the bay window and the other in front of the other window. The console could go behind the sofa in front of the bay widow.

I'll play a little with a furniture arrangement and check back.

The console is low like a side table... what we currently use to put our huge TV on. I'm trying to convince my husband to just mount it on the wall opposite the window. Another thought I had was to put a huge mirror directly opposite the smaller window... giving the illusion of another window? But then there is no where to put the tv. I like your screen idea! What would you place infront of the screen? The kitchen table? Right now the kitchen table is placed tight against the really long wall on the left (opposite the air conditioner).

Maybe something like this would work for you. I'm having some trouble orienting myself to the space without a visual of what's to the right and opposite the door. You could think about a low long media console on the long wall and design around it. I prefer freestanding TV's to wall mounted for the sake of flexibility (ie: you can move the whole unit over a foot or two to allow for furniture changes)

If you wanted, you could put a simple side table or nothing at all. Hope this helps.

Your diagram is right on par with the size of the room and window placement. Thanks for the visual! I'm thinking of buying a bar/pub height table. Ours would look quirky next to the kitchen island (which would fill up the right side of your diagram).

Nearly any type of visual screen placed in front of an air conditioner will prove to be very problematic.
