Reupolstering chairs

I need help deciding if it is worth reupolstering these chairs. They are 60 yrs old. The frames are in very good condition but the down and silk are shot. It will cost about $1,100 to make new again. There is no manufacture indicated on the pieces Thanks to anyone who can help me with this delemia.

Yes Yes and Yes! I have been dealing in furniture over 20 yrs and I promise you they will be worth it. You can't find chairs like that for much less than the total of the reupholstering. They look like a revival French Louie XV style as below and I would love to get my hands on them. Not as common as some designs and I bet they were expensive even during their birth. The chairs are beautiful and hard to reproduce, reupholstering is costly. I took an upholstery class @ Joanns because I wanted the experience. With the guidence of an expert it was a breeze but I wouldn't try it at home alone. Worth the money it is a great deal of work thats why it is so expensive.

Do it, they are beautiful ! You need to pick the right fabric though !

If you love them, go for it, with the caveat that the actual structure of the chairs is still good. Ensure all the wood is in good condition ( not splintering) and all the joints are still tightly intact. The chair shouldn't wobble either. If any of these conditions are true then you should get an estimate for those repairs and then decide if all the $$ is worth it.

They look like great chairs. If in perfect condition and the right fabric, would they be just right for your space? If they had down cushions originally, I'd think that they were high quality chairs.

Agree- the details are stunning in the wood. A coat of paint/stain with a hip fabric- these are a keep for sure!

Thank you all for you expertise and suggestions. I think it will be a great addition to one or two rooms in my home! They were originally made with silk and down and were gorgeous "back in the day". However time and the elements have beaten them terribly Thanks to all of you!
