think about it.. you saw significant damage.. in late july or august.. or fall ... so may isnt really the time to be thinking they arent around..

set a beer trap ... or lay down a lettuce leaf with a stick thru it ... or a piece of scrap lumber.. and check it every day .. and if you find one.. you will find more ...

slugs are the bane of the hosta world.. there are many posts and FAQs about how to deal with them in that forum ... thought not quite yet ... use the GW search if you wish ...

I agree with you...they couldn't have just disappeared! However, I'm not talking about late July, August, I'm saying that last Spring around April/May I started planting out wintersown seedlings. Every clump I placed suffered significant loss at the "hands" of slugs....THIS year I have put out clumps w/no sign of slugs anywhere! Nothing is being consumed! I left a head of romaine lettuce outside....nothing has touched it! Maybe a neighbor has started growing hostas and they've headed on over there! Just wondering if there's a slugivore that may have had a population explosion this yr? We have more bobcats but then I don't know if they eat slugs? Foxes? Maybe salamanders?
