Golden Ray plumeria

I "found" a Golden Ray plumeria that has been hiding in my plumeria collection for years....I completely forgot about it because it just doesn't bloom. It's grafted, and has one of the ugliest bulbous grafts I've ever seen. Could this be an issue with my Golden Ray or is Golden Ray just one of those varieties with special needs?

Do not know Golden Ray but I have a Golden Rainbow from way back from Marylyn.

Is your Golden Ray originally from JJ's, Sonia in Upland, or did you import it from Thailand? It can be picky, but has a nice compact shape and does put out inflos. In my case the inflos often dry up and fall off GR, I think she is a bit picky but who knows.

That's gorgeous, Bill! It's been so long since Golden Ray has bloomed, I'm not sure what it looks like anymore....lol. I got it from Jack Morgan, and it bloomed before I was so heavily addicted, so it never crossed my mind to take a picture. I know for sure that it was a Thai variety that Jack got a hold of, but there's not much info on it now. Kimo, it has had inflos through the years but they dried up. Growth habit isn't compact on mine, some of the branches are a bit thin but it could be because it's been ignored.

If it came from Jack M, it's from Sonia in Upland who bought it from JJ's. So it is the real deal. Some of the GR were a bit picky, even getting Black Tip in Upland, but a few didnt have any issues and were free blooming. I never got BT on my GR, but like I stated earlier it sometimes drops inflos. Id keep your GR as they are not available anymore from JJ's.
Maybe your issue is caused by the graft, sometimes the union of the 2 plumies shifts or separates.

Kimo, that helps a lot....thank you! At least I have a history on it, now! I'm beginning to think I should relinquish it to someone who has more experience in the offchance that the graft is having issues and it needs to be hacked into cuttings. I'm still working on finding a rooting technique I like (my biggest tree is a Hilo Beauty, so I have a good supply of hard-to-root cuttings!). I think my GR blacktipped on me once, but it was in-ground and conditions weren't great. I pulled it out and it's been living in a 3 gallon pot for 3-4 years, no blacktip issues. I repotted it into a 7 gallon pot so we'll see what this season brings.
