non plumeria related

I also have a few pineapple plants one being about 1 year and a Half old. The other day I said if it didnt produce by the end of summer I was tossing them all out and never wasting time, effort and especially room(they can get big and pointy)again. Well guess what, its pushing up a fruit, LOL.

Well this thread brings me back memories!

I remember my very first plumeria i rooted my self:)
it was a NOID rainbow that my boyfriend bought me as a surprize at the local swapmeet. He knew I loved plumeria but i always bought rooted cuttings. He got me an unrooted plumeria and he had no idea I still had to root it (which I had never done before) and I didnt feel confident I could root a cutting myself. But he convinced me that I could do it. I follwed directions watching videos doing research all day and I followed every word. It took about 3 months to root but I was so glad when I saw the little claws peeping out:') I jumped for joy literally !

Mike, Pineapples usually take about 2 years to fruit so sounds like yours is right on schedule. Let it get mostly ripe on the plant and it will be about the sweetest you may have tasted. I had a plant on the front porch several years ago just to be a potted plant and it all if a sudden started a fruit. Since it was only in sun a few hours a day, it only got to about the size of a baseball but it sure was tasty. Right now I have about 5 pineapples growing in pots about a year old. Crossing my fingers.

When a flower looks better than you thought it would like my Kalina. When one in fifty seedlings produces a new and beautiful flower. When a plant you thought you had lost in a freeze suddenly sprouts new branches. When your friend gives you a plant he thinks you must have and it is one you have always wanted. When you look at a plant and discover 30 inflos pushing on almost every tip. When you are ready to mix your soil and your neighbor offers you his electric cement mixer

finding the plumeria the dog broke in half last fall not only sprouting but blooming!

How the heck do ya`ll grow a pineapple in a pot? Mine are HUGE! And pokey is an understatement lol!

they do hurt.

When I get a bloom from a cutting gifted from a friend.

I love my cuttings from friends more than when I buy them from the stores. ;-)

They make my day and bring me such joy.

When I thought I lost one from a visit to a friends house only to receive a replacement from him and his friend.... That is a wonderful feeling.. Means more than anything money can buy....

the lady down the street cuts those pink and yellow egg cartons into these kind of flower shapes and sticks them on the ends of her yucca. it is the funniest looking thing but every spring she does it and we do a happy dance! I could do that to my pineapple, the neighbors already think I'm insane.

I have been floored by the kindness of my plumie friends, and each and every time it is really special to me when someone offers a cutting or a plant just to share. I agree with you Laura, it makes them extra extra special. :)

I do the happy dance when I have something to share with one of my friend. I do it again when I can see them do the happy dance when they receive it. "LOL" Peg

My happy dance moments are when I see a tiny white root in a water bottle, especially if it's on a cutting from a friend! Fortunately, I've had many, many of those!

Happy dance! My co-worker brought me an almost 4`, double branched, which then had 8 tips, cutting of a plumeria yesterday to work! Already calloused and pushing leaves. She thinks it is yellow. Planting it this afternoon if the rain holds off.

Jen, thank you so much, I am REALLY excited!!! I promise to share lots and lots of pictures - I think the timing will be good, since it's just starting, by the time it matures I think we'll have the heat to make them really show off properly. I kep Gina under lights because I got her as a cutting last season - she didn't even drop all of her leaves until towards the very end. Very vigorous and healthy grower - so much so that the tag I had twisty-tied onto her was digging into the trunk because she had grown so much, now she has a line indention where that was.choking her! To make this even sweeter, this was a generous gift from a friend :)

Tally, WOW, what a wonderful gift from your co-worker! Very cool! Some day I will bite the bullet & plant one in the ground!

I discovered that several of mine began to get inflos in the garage. Now they are all outside and most are leafing out like mad. The ones that should have blooms in a month or so are:

Cool Aid
Inca Gold
Divine
Sangria- lots of them, this one is a blooming machine machine
Starlight
Thumbelina

They actually got these in the garage prior to moving them outside. I think leaving the garage door open on nice warn days helped them come out of dormancy. The past 2-3 weeks some of them even got some late afternoon sun. So far they all seem happy in their new Al's Gritty Mix.

My happy dance will be a little happier when my Golden Pagoda stops pouting and at least puts out some claws. Now it is just a rounded tip but it looks good otherwise. It did this one other year, took forever. It still hasn't bloomed for me, this is it's 3rd season, hopefully this year. It's getting tall, nice and fat, it just needs to bloom and branch.

I'm going to try to keep better notes this year. Last year I was remiss in logging info into my plant journals.
