Okay, I have been cultivating plumarias for ten or twelve years with modest success. Where I live, we have freezes and I have to cut back, some are more hardy than others, most are in containers.

I have a plant I bought ? maybe four years ago from Lowes and it is a Jungle Jack. Doesn't look anything like my others, doesn't drop leaves in winter and in fact, within a couple days, I expect a bloom.

So this is the problem. It's been an unlucky plant, was sort of spindly , a little too long in the trunk for my taste but the wind got it. Busted right off at ground level.

I salvaged both last year and they both grew and leafed out and flowered. Then I gave away the top part that rooted successfully. It's doing well.

This is an apricot, large flower, but not particularly fragrant, smells more like a vegetable, to me?

To get to the point, the base where the tree broke off a year and a half ago has two good sized areas, right at soil level, that are bare, no bark. If I had to guess, I'd say 65% to 75% of the bark is still in place?

My question is: Don't worry about a plant that has healthy green leaves and is about to bloom, or should I do something about it? What do I do? Plant deeper, or get the bare parts above ground level? Wrap it with something or use a paste to seal it? Varnish or an epoxy or that black stuff they sell, for when you cut a branch?

I am concerned about disease or insects or just a source of rot, because I think the bark-less areas are larger than before?
