Although sometimes called Ponytail Palm, it isn't a palm at all. It's more closely related to asparagus than it is to palms. It's a Beaucarnea species, probably B. recurvata. They can grow much taller than yours, and much wider at the base.

I would of never thought that, it looks like a mini palm tree lol. any advice for this? is it normally a slower type grower? I have had it for three year and it is a lot bigger and healthier then it was. when I got it the leaves at the top was only the size of my two fists put together and was only 6 inches tall. as you can see it has grown but not very fast

Yes, B. recurvata. Give full sun, watch the watering big time as they originate from arid sections of Mexico. It is a close kin to Yucca. Easy plant and thrives on neglect so do not overly pamper it (some plants are like that!).

These are in a hot tropical climate. Cooler climate they can get much wider at the base of the trunk.
