Here's another picture. Not all leaves have these holes or pattern.

missmandylee, when the leaf was young and still rolled up, an insect bored its way across the spindle. As the leaf unfurled, the pattern of holes showed up.
You can simulate the condition by rolling up a piece of paper and use a small drill bit to bore across the cylinder.
As you open the piece of paper a similar pattern of holes will show up.
As to the identity of the insect, it usually is long gone by the time I find the signs.

Probably leaf roller caterpillars.

Believe it or not, the caterpillar is named the calla leaf roller.

and do note.. it was said.. they are long gone ...

consider it a free and amazing show.. for the season ...

rather mystical.. if you can get in the right mind frame ...

and.. its most likely the oldest leaf .... because that is when the bug was active ...

Yep purpleinopp, they haven't made it to mine yet, but will show up within the next month or so, and I'll battle them until the end of September down here....

I’m gonna try rose bush soap repellent. Mine have these interesting holes. Thanks for the explanation!
