Ticks are gross, but im used to them. In peak season here, I can have 4 or 5 on me within a half hour if i venture out for a nature walk.

That looks like a male American dog tick. Google needs to become your friend as you and your husband educate yourselves about ticks. You need to know what different species look like before AND engorged with their blood meal.

Please verify the type of tick this is, perhaps with your local extension office. Being informed about these arachnids is pretty darned important in order to protect yourselves.

P.S. Careful inspection of each other's scalp is important, as is the examination of your own body. They seem to like those places where we really don't want them, too.
