Not so weird......a natural phenom of many lianas.

i have no experience with this plant..

but the next question that pops to mind.. is what.. if an damage it will do.. to the surfaces it attaches to??? .. in other words.. is what looks like drywall behind it safe ...

many such plants come with big pieces of wood in the pot... to have something to attach to ....

ps: also.. when i think of jungle lianas.. i think tarzan ... many have vast potential .... many need heavy pruning.. to keep them in check ... again... just something that comes to mind .... a variable ... for you to research .... [and i wouldnt be surprised if rhiz says i am way off base.. but my point being.. you need to find out]

Ken, Confederate Jasmine is another common name for this plant, Trachelospermum jasminiodes. It's called 'jasmine ' because of the heady fragrance of the white flowers.

It does not produce tendrils or use these adventitious roots to afix itself to anything. It is an aggressively growing, heavy, evergreen, twining vine that needs to be trained to climb along a fence, a strong trellis, or other feature. If there is nothing to support the plant (to twine around), it needs to be tied up or allowed to grow along a horizontal surface.

If you want it to grow up a wall, a framework of of wires will be necessary.

People may purchase a small Confederate Jasmine with a piece of cheap lattice in the pot but will soon realize that this is a vine that needs a much stronger support system than lattice. It cannot climb on 'a big piece of wood ', by the way.
