i though oil was a contact kill ... smothering things... and i would wonder.. what it would do for a borer inside the plant ...

but if we are preventing the borer .. by attacking some surface bug that lays the eggs.. then we would have to time our application to arrival of the pest ...

what is the 'active ingredient' that is high you your solution???

It's arthradoctone (or something like that--it's the essential Neem oil? I guess?

Supposedly the neem oil does get into the plant somehow. Saw on several youtubes/blogs.

Neem oil can work as a systemic but its effectiveness when used this way is increased if you water it into the ground rather than just spraying on the foliage. And that active ingredient is probably azadirachtin.

Thanks gardengal. I will water it in around the base of the plants. Sorry I could not remember the name of the main constituent!
