pretty pretty. How are your cuttings doing? some of mine have leaves, others noting.

One I checked was totally hollow, bottom to top, feel so bad, don't understand why that happened?. A cutting from seller, awsofine.Ooooh
got to find your larve picture.
Had a few lady bugs on my plumies couple babies, now see little tiny long skinny bugs? hope that is larve of lady bugs. did not quish.

    Hi Karyn and Karen,

Most of my cuttings have leaves now. DSP is said to be difficult to root, so IÂm glad it worked out for me. I got this one from Evelyn this spring. The two that are being slow are a generic white and a generic pink. The generic white has elongated and has small claws; the generic pink is just sitting in its pot with no sign of growth or rot. We are having a major heat wave, which the plumies love. The temps have been in the triple digits the last few days, which has caused the plumies to grow much faster. One of the cuttings I bought as a potential birthday present for my relative across town has developed an inflo, so she is getting Nassau as her birthday plumeria next month. I need to do an inflo count again because a few more of my cuttings have developed them. Lizzy the Lizard put in an appearance this evening when I was watering. The heat must be getting to the old lady.

    Hi Philip,
really on the cutting from Evelyn. Super for you. My cutting from her on the pink dwarf, was so slender, pencil size and dehydrated, threw it in the trash..irritated me. Can see she sent you a "real plant"..great. Heard the dwarfs are very difficult to get to grow, so pat yourself on the back for that one. Such blooms..

I bought one from Florida colors, grafted plus Dwarf Delicious, hope spelled right, suppose to be a good one. Plus singapore..Now both dwarfs had major rust, removed leaves and they are starting over, don't appreciate that. Have had that happen with Florida colors before. Imagine, will slow down and take awhile to get anywhere. did spray. Got tiny leaves growing, but healthy.

Super triple digits to make plumies grow, lousy on you..but great on Nassau will be a very nice gift. Just got back from Yosemite area, could have stayed in that mountain cabin for a few more days, visiting friends who lived in the area.. boy its dark up there, dangerous to drive, or as we did, got lost in the forest! Saw a lot of deer, fox went accross, no cell phones worked, but a glorious few days.

    Watch out for Lizzie!!! ha

Phllip. That's really a neat little plumie you have there!
Triple digit temps eh! That must be what my plumie is lacking I guess.
Have had bad electrical storms here past few days, raining cats 'n dogs then sun, so unpredictable, places flooded out, months rain in one day in some areas. Good job we live on top of hill....but pity others....not nice to have home flooded.
Looks like you have a veritable plumie forest. Congrats....more pics of your blooms later on please to make me even more enviable of you all!
    Happy growin'!
    Gill.

Nice flower Phillip. With those triple digits I hope you are getting some surf to go with it. Just ordered a new epoxy quad short board for the summer so now I need a serious diet. Finally I have a few flowers that have opened or are about to open but we have been cool out here so everything is running late. My largest hedge looks sad as several plants have been replaced and others hacked down to half the size. Cerise is still only showing signs of life on two branches. On the other hand all my young stuff is leafing out and looking healthy so I hope july is flowerful. We need some of your warm weather. Bill

Sorry Phillip. Ignore the surf comments. I mixed you up with Phil from Florida and just as I hit the submit button I realized my error....too late to catch. I did not know it was that hot in Arizona now but it is nice for the plumies. Bill

Here is a second day shot of the DSP flower. It has an incredible fragrance. The plant is said to bloom and branch frequently and form a small plant with a number of growth tips. I hope I can get it to bloom indoors this winter.

    Hi PHilip
I was looking at your plant, lucky you, you got a thick plant. Great inflo, great leaves too. Wow, am so happy for you. Hear the scent of the flowers are wonderful.

When then did you start watering as a plant? did you feed? I have a couple with leaves, about 4" long or so.

ready to come up and live with your plumies!! there is a neighborhood party driving us bonco!! People seem to feel we want to hear their music on loud speakers! is midnight

    Hi Karen,

I put osmocote in the pots about 3 weeks ago. I gave the plants a weak feeding of water soluble fertilizer a few days ago when I realized the osmocote wonÂt really kick in until our daily monsoon rains start next month. I started watering twice per week three weeks ago when the claws had gotten fairly large. I have watered more this week because of the heat wave we have had. If you have four inch leaves, treat the plumeria as a plant and no longer as a cutting.

My DPS cutting was much thinner than the plumeria rubra cuttings. It was about 3/4s the diameter of the thick pencils we used in first grade when we were learning to write. The second picture is a close-up shot using the macro function on my camera.

IÂm sorry youÂre being disturbed by what passes for "music" these days. This hasnÂt happened to me since I left California, except for the occasional jerk in traffic who thinks I would enjoy having my eardrums assaulted by noise.

Well, now I get to really look dumb. I realized that Phil from Florida (floridafl) is not Phil at all but Whit. So that means that the several times I talked surfing to Phillip, I was talking to Phillip in Arizona (with its shortage of oceans) instead of Whit in Florida. Sorry Sorry Sorry. Bill

    Hi PHilip,
did not know you started watering with large claws.. oh. this one cutting is large V with about 7 branches. Two have leaves really growing, others claws.. oh boy afraid to water, have killed so many cuttings. ok..
will lightly water? then start feeding.. ok

    Hi Karen,

From your description, it sounds ok to water normally now. You may not need to water as much as I do. I live in a desert with hot dry winds and single digit humidity. I donÂt have a marine layer to keep temps down and reduce evaporation. I have to make sure my pots never dry out completely, otherwise the new roots will fry.

My original fertilizing plan was to use osmocote and supplement with a bloom fertilizer. The daily monsoon rains that start next month will leech nutrients out of the pots without regular replacement. I realized that the osmocote hadnÂt really kicked in yet, which is why I gave a weak shot of balanced fertilizer. I think the next fertilization will be bloom fertililizer, with several more shots of bloom fertilizer over the rest of the season.

Bill, donÂt worry about the surfing thing; I wondered what that was all about. I didnÂt have time to surf when I lived in California, but if I ever move near the ocean again, I may well take it up.

    Hi Philip,
thanks..never thought about new roots frying, will keep that in mind when we get way too hot. Appreciate the watering ideas. I just want these cuttings to make it. Only totally sure on one, so far. Have Two others with high claws, both are mystery plants from maui gardens

Others, thought they were getting there, but they aren't, false alarm.. been over 2 months or more.

Monsoons, Have a friend in Tucson who talks about them being awful ARe you going to keep your plants out in that weather? Do you have a covered patio, or somewhere for a break?

    Philip,
It is nice to come to huh?? I came home lastweekend to my first blooms of the year... Yours are just beautiful...
Ok who is lizzie the lizzard? We have them with the blue streak down there backs.. One was in my house plant I put outside and when I brought in I just hung her back up well when I went to water her this lizzard jumped in the sink... Silly things they are...

Karen, I will be leaving my plumeria outside all summer. The monsoons here are not as severe as the ones in Tucson, at least according to my relatives. They couldnÂt be any worse than the storms I remember from my childhood in SW Florida.

Susan, Lizzie is a huge lizard that has claimed my plumeria patch as her home. She's much bigger than the other lizards of her species that live in my yard and has to be their ancestor. Karen is freaked out by lizards; Bill and Karyn on the other hand have lizards they keep as pets. I think Lizzy is a very distinguished looking lady, in this photo she looks like she will be laying eggs soon.

Your DSP is beautiful Philip. I didn't so well rooting DSP that I got from MPG last year. After seeing yours, I must try once more :)

    Oh Dear Philip.
Lizzie may lay eggs!!!! more looking like her. Well. I had decided to come and live in your plumie garden to get away from the loud music in my neighborhood..every night and weekends. Buttt. I have decided not to come now, too crowded!!! bummer. ha ha

Monsoons in Tucson, when I lived there were un-real with flooding a lot. Glad yours will be ok..
