Is this a palm flower?

I was given this cutting to see if I could get it to root, and was told it is from a palm - I am not too sure of this, and hope it is not as palm cuttings not from the main stem will probably not root - can anyone help please?

Looks like a yucca flower to me. I'm not sure of any flowering plant that will root from the flower.

It is most definitely a yucca (not a palm, but actually an agave relative.) Possibly Yucca baccata? I don't think I've ever heard of a plant being propagated by flower stem cuttings. Furthermore, I don't think I've ever heard of a palm being propagated by cuttings. The Yucca, on the other hand could be propagated by stem cuttings.

It is a yucca. Unfortunately neither yuccas nor palms will produce cuttings that way. You cannot root palm cuttings, but you can root yucca cuttings (from the main stem of the plant, not the flowers though).

Some orchids can be propagated by flower stem cuttings (Phaius), but Yuccas aren't orchids.

Thank you all for your responses - I have had a number of Yucca plants but none have flowered, so I did not recognise the flower. I am not sure why the lady who gave me this thought that I could propagate from the cutting.
