Normally, they will branch at the point of an inflorescence. Sometimes, a plant will send up, what I call, a pseudo inflo (a bare stalk with one, two or no buds). And the plant will also branch at that point.

There are numerous options for fertilizers. I happen to use a time release 8-14-10 as a basis. I supplement every couple of weeks with a high phosphorus 9-58-8 super bloom liquid fertilizer. (1 tbls/gal of water)

Do you have them outside in full sun? The more sun you can get on them, the better.

As captainjohn mentioned, it is recommended that they get around 6 hours of sun a day.

As for fertilizer, that seems to be pretty subjective. I use a slow release 13-13-13 once a month and a foliar spray once a week. I previously used a liquid 10-10-10 once a week with good results.

About amount of sun....I moved last winter and the previous conditions they did received only about 3-4 hrs of sun. I had so many trees at the other house not much sun.

New house,,,This summer they are getting sun from sun up to sun down. So this is the first time in 3 years they have seen this much sun. LOL

Winter...I would bring them inside and kept them in my dinning room that got maybe 2hrs of sun and I watered maybe once every month or two. I watered because after sitting for 2 months with no water they kept growing new leaves when they dropped a leaf.

The ferts I was using was Osmocote, water from my pond, and Schultz bloom booster 10-60-10.
