Here in Texas we have the same problem during our 98 degree plus summer. We have to move the plumies to an area in the yard they'll get partial late afternoon shade to help prevent sunburn. What I have noticed is that different plants can withstand the sun better than others and the plants in larger pots seem to weather better too.

Hi Roxanne, I had a sunburn problem much like yours with reflected sunrays from a kitchen window (almost like a magnifying glass). I taped a piece of black mosquito screen over the glass and that took care of it.

Wow what a creative solution! Last summer, I too had really bad sunburn problem from the wall reflecting heat on the two patios. So far this year it has not been hot enough for long enough period of time to do any real damage. But if it does I will try your approach. Effective and so beautiful! :)

I find as the sun axis moves from month to month...this way I can move the umbrella or collapse all together. Thank heavens for swap meets. roxanne
