Propagation of Various Shrubs

Things are just now starting to wake up in my garden. I am anxious to take cuttings of some of my shrubs. Can I take cuttings of my red twig dogwood shrub and artic willow shrub now or do I need to wait until the leaves show on the plant that I plan to use for cuttings.

I am not sure what type of cloning you are trying to do. Tip cuttings are new growth, not too green. Hardwood cuttings you take dormant wood, pencil size, and callus it over winter. Cuttings without leaves will produce leaves as it warms but I don't believe it will root in time to support the clone. I do a lot of tip cuttings so that is really my experience. We all rush spring but you can waste plant material and high spirits by starting too early.

Both dogwood and willow root really easily. I'd just go ahead and stick your cuttings into the ground any time at all. Cut about a foot long and stick half in the ground and forget about them. They are 2 of the simplest shrubs to root.
