The painting above the bed is a custom canvas painted by a separate local artist. Search your area for talented artist who would love to help you with your project. They are worth the budget and effort. :0)

Love this bedroom. Is the wall paint done with a ragged affect or is it just the light that makes it look like it has a slightly mottled effect? I love the way it doesn't look 'flat' but more textured. How did you get that affect?

vjaffe, the walls were base-coated in a mid-tone, blue, satin-sheen paint chosen based on the bed-covering. Then I applied a navy blue glaze to the walls and ceiling using a big floppy brush, in a cloudy hatch-stroke fashion. The glaze was applied more heavily as it got nearer to the center of the ceiling. If you plan on trying this, it works best to tape off each wall separately (do north and south walls one day, and east west walls the next. Otherwise the glaze dries much to quickly to control trying to do all walls at once (you get ugly overlap lines). Then, the same with the ceiling: tape off all the edges of the ceiling and start in one corner and work the glaze across the surface on the diagonal; you have to work fast as the glaze's open time is limited. Working on the diagonal helps any overlap marks that may occur to look more organic. NOTE: it is best to do the ceiling FIRST so any drips on the wall can be wiped off. Good luck!
