Product like sphagnum moss?

So I really like sphagnum moss (the long fibers, the kind people use for orchids) for layering or just cuttings. I like how it's like a sponge, adheres to what I want and seems to help keep mold and other annoying stuff at bay.

Since it's not a very sustainable product, what with similar properties (hopefully cheap and easy to find) is like it that I can use instead? Any ideas?

I think coconut fiber strands would need a lot of washing to leech out the salt and I don't think it's as spongey and conforming.
