a 0.1% IBA (Rooting hormone) will speed up the rooting pprocess BUT willstill take 440-80 days to root. this time oy the year may require mor frequent mistion.... if not possible try taking cuttings later in the fall.

I just put them in a glass of water. No problems what so ever. within 3 to 4 weeks there are roots.

Easiest to propagate during the winter. Wound at the base (or not), shove into your pot...no mist, just keep them above freezing (never had to use hormone).....

Propagation experiments was my serious hobby for many years, I still do a few. It was my observation that many woody cuttings of deciduous plants did better if taken in the late fall or winter.

Next spring take your cuttings before they break dormancy and plant them where you want them to grow then water the crap out of them. The roots will grow where they are to be permanently and and you won't have to acclimate them to the great outdoors. Good luck
