Grwing from a cutting?

I have one magnificent Japanese Dogwood - its so unusually large and full that I would like to propagate this tree.

When do I take cuttings and how do I do the necessary?

Take a terminal cutting 5-6 inches lon in june or July.. Apply 0.3% IBA (Rooting hormone) stick in well drained soil & mist.

I guess I dont know what a node or terminal is....and I googled it and it aint clear....

The node is the point on the plant stem at which leaves,shoots,branches,or flowers emerge. Does that help?

Do you suggest a particular rooting hormone over the others, or will any rooting hormone work. Thanks for the info, I am planning on trying my hand at propagation. WIsh me luck, I have some plumeria cuttings and my neighbor has some hydrangias I am going to try and grow from a cutting. Any advice?

My advice would be to invest in a propagation reference book. A not too technical one is Secrets of Plant Propagation, by Lewis Hill. A garden way book should be easy to find, paper back and not more than $15. Al
