Reading around the web, it seems they just stick a length of stem into the ground at an angle, out doors, keep the soil moist, and voila.

My experience with cassava is limited to the stage in processing for human consumption where they ferment the roots to get rid of some toxic element before they move on to cook and eat it - we used to encourage the farmers to ferment the roots in a fish pond, which in turn fertilized the algae which fed the fish.

I know the stuff is very easy to propagate - its a staple food over much of the world. At the link some wanna-be survivalist gives a pretty good description of how to do this. Scroll down about half way.....

Thank you, that was the most information I've seen on the topic, and now I know what I'm doing wrong. My cuttings are too green, and they're rotting. He says to use 1-2" diameter canes, and mine aren't that big yet. Maybe next year!
