Hi Melody, I am very sorry that the lawn person did this, you might want to try putting a tomato cage around the bottom. Maybe you could cut the cage down a little bit so it will not stuck out so much but it should help. Barb

Is the damage like that all around the base of the plant, or is there a strip of undamaged bark connecting the untouched bark of the root base to the main stem aboveon the other side of the tree? If not, I think the gardeners have inadvertently girdled your plumeria which will stop the flow of nutrients and water back and forth between the leaves and upper tree and the roots below. End result, the tree above the damage dies. You may have to cut the tree off just above the damage and re-root. But perhaps you might then get new growth next spring from the root base. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Mike,

The damage is all around the base of the plant. I put some DAP sealants around it yesterday but I did some research after that. As you mentioned, I might have to cut it and re-root it. It was a very bad day yesterday, I found 4 of my plants got damaged. 2 of them were very badly. Thank you Mike.

Hopefully you can wait until the spring but I would also consider re rooting it. There are some metal and plastic protective sheaths which can be used to help prevent this kind of damage.

Thank you all. I decided to re-root them even I am still upset about it. I cut 2 of them after work today. I live in central FL. I hope that I will still have enough time to re-root them before the chill days. Wish me luck.
