I have read, but not tried this: "Cut off the tip from a healthy branch with a sharp pocket knife blade. The best time to cut the branch is at sunrise, when the plant has rejuvenated and is the moistest inside. The tip should be between 4 to 6 inches. Wound the tip by gently cutting off some of the lower leaves and bark. Wounding stimulates faster growth and rooting. Pour some rooting hormone onto a small dish and dip the exposed cuts in the hormone so that the powder sticks. Fill the pot with your planting medium and water it thoroughly. Poke a hole in the medium and set the plant into the hole. This ensures that the rooting hormone is not rubbed off during planting. Pack enough soil around the cutting to keep its vertical placement. Wrap the pot in a clear plastic bag to keep moisture in for the plant. Keep the soil moist until the cutting has rooted. On average, rooting takes eight to 10 weeks. Test whether the cutting has rooted by gently tugging on it. If the cutting does not move, then it has rooted. Remove the bag and place in a sunny spot to encourage further growth."

It looks like a Norfolk Island Pine, which is not actually a pine at all but Araucaria heterophylla. It is a tough one to propagate and in order to obtain a symmetrical plant you have to use only the terminal shoot. In commerce they are raised by seed. You might get some expert help if you ask about this on the Conifer Forum.

CharlieBoring's advice comes from ehow which I'm afraid is a very unreliable resource. It has a very general one size fills all description of taking a cutting from an 'evergreen plant' which could be just about anything that isn't deciduous and covers both broad leaves and conifers - very different plants.
