'Split leaf' could possibly apply to many philodendrons species. And they each have different cold tolerances. If you can post a pic and tell us where you live, some of us might be able to help.

That said, if it's Monstera, it's a vine and it wants to grow tall, and eventually up a tree. Flopping over is natural for it.

But you should be able to cut it back anywhere. When healthy, these plants are very tolerant of chopping.
