If you cut on the stem it should branch out again but seeing you are going into winter the growing maybe have slowed down. Ive never really thought pruning just before winter was a good idea. Im unsure if it will keep growing slowly, or stop for abit over winter and then restart. I get afraid that they might just stop growing and never start again and then you would be left with a stump :/

That is good advice. I have talked with the people at emersonsplumerias.com. They were very friendly. They said I could cut it, but the recommendation would be in the spring. They stored their plumerias last weeked for the winter - bareroot with large plants upside down. I have decided to try to store them as they are - minus their leaves. Then in the spring, I will cut a few plumerias on the trunk and others on the branches.

I appreciate the last post since I also decided to wait to cut in the spring.
