Crushed!

I'm crushed! I know I said that I was done with cuttings for the year but I saw a fully-rooted one I couldn't resist. It just came in the mail, broken at the base. :( The seller immediately offered to replace it, but it seems worth trying to save.

This one had a huge root system already established so I wouldn't have to fuss with it as the weather gets colder but the box got crimped and the base of the plant crushed from soil line to 2" up. I potted the roots and crushed base anyway as some folks have posted that they were able to revive frozen plants from the ground up.

My dilemma is in how to root the 16" broken-off top (which looks fantastically healthy) when fall is upon us. I've attempted it once before in the fall without success. Any suggestions, guys?

I do have a great east window with full sun for several hours, where I've managed to germinate my first plumeria seeds. Can I put the cutting into a dry cactus mix in a clear plastic bottle (a la Bill) on the window sill and let condensation provide the moisture? Once again my fear is too much water on a cold cutting.

Tdogdad, if you read this, it's a My Valentine that had big roots from this summer when it was first rooted. Are these a fairly easy variety to root? You seem very fond of yours from the posts I've read. It sounds like a winner.
