Looking for tips for a newbie

I am starting to grow peppers for the first time (second really, but last year was a massive failure).

I am wanting to know some tips for someone starting out.

I currently have about 8 plants in 2 window sill type planters (4 in each planter), its a mix of a few different kinds. I am not trying to grow huge plants just ones that will give me a constant supply of peppers, I am the only one that likes or eats them. I am growing them indoors ( in a closet) currently with a florescent grow light from walmart hung about 6 inches above the tallest plant.

They have been growing well under that so far. Even one that I thought was a day or 2 from death pick up and sprouted new leafs.

I found this site because I discovered, what i now know to be, winged aphids crawling on them. I have hopefully made a good aphid killer out of dish soap and a tiny bit of mouth numbing hot sauce and water. Then soaked them in it :)

That's pretty much what I have going on now. If anyone has some tips for me, or suggestions. I am just looking for what ever advice I can get since I don't know too much about what I am doing :)
