Garlic chives are often planted as companions to help deter insect pests. I plant regular garlic around our roses.

Spider mites are easily washed off roses with a sharp stream of water. Using your hose, or a spray bottle, spray the underside of the leaves thoroughly. Spider mites don't like dampness, so rinsing them off while creating a moist environment should eliminate the problem. The one time I had spider mites on the roses I sprayed twice, two days apart and that eliminated the problem.

It may be just that "allium" sort of family too--they all stink a bit...I have bells of holland bulbs that stink to high heaven! Wonder if that would work?

I've heard of garlic too but have never tried it anywhere but with the vegs.
