this is a pic of the whole plant its long and thin not bushy. its sandwiched between wall and evergreen so need to transplant it.

I'm quite sure that what you're asking about isn't a rose. It is some sort of shrub, but I couldn't tell you without knowing more about it. The shape of the leaf, lack of leaflets, and position of the leaves alone simply don't seem like any rose I've seen, hybrid or species.

Does it flower noticeably? If so, when, what color, what shape flower? I'm not so well versed in shrubs on the whole, but mentioning where you garden and more observations about the plant might be enough for someone to name it.

Perhaps ask in a shrub or local forum here on gardenweb?

Maybe this is a Rose of Sharon plant which is in the hibiscus family not the rosa family.

I can't really see the plant, but those look a lot like Mulberry leaves....

There is no way that is a rose. Jane, have you actually seen it flower? Like country girl, I immediately thought mulberry leaves as well.
