A trick I use is I start trees/bushes in a pot full of sand and cover them with a fruit jar or any old glass jar to control humidity. If you don't have an old jelly Jar around I would use a plastic bag. Any rooting gel or powder should work some better than others. I use clonex myself just as a preference. Some people use a heat mat at 70 degrees F but I usually don't because I don't have one. Just keep the temp in mind so if you are starting half a dozen perhaps keep them on top of the hot water heater while they root or beside a heating vent in the house. I started a bunch of date seeds that way once just to see if I could. In that case I wrapped the seeds in a paper towel and used a one gallon plastic bag and they sprouted in two weeks to a month. We started rose cuttings once by accident when the neighbors trimmed their roses a few sticks wound up in our compost pile under a bunch of leaves etc.. and they are still beautiful rose bushes.
