I would put it in morning sun for a good 6 hours.
This plant is part of S. microphylla
Salvia microphylla var wislizenii syn. (lemmonii)
Depends on your view of things... if your a lumper or splitter. For me it make better sense to put in with
S. microphylla as opposed to lumping in into another
species .But that is just me.

dos the soil need to be full of hummus or lean? Will it need moisture? My soil does not retain moisture as you know , Art.

I have S. lemonii growing in two beds in full sun; one pure limestone sand and another bed which is native soil amended heavily with limestone sand. Much to my surprise, they survived their first zone 4 Minnesota winter in my garden. I've never had a microphylla or greggii survive for me here. Much to my chagrin, however, they were late bloomers for me, and didn't really get going until very late in the summer. Maybe this year will be different, if they survive again. My plants are from seed from Southwestern Native Seed.

I bet Texas summer sun is a tad different from MN Zone 4 sun. That is great that they survived your winter. We got them from the same place, it appears. They were in 4" pots when we got a 6 day freeze down to 11F down here. A warm spell for you but a crisis for us.

I would do the well drained limestone and keep it on the lean
side. I have friend who put lots of his greggii's and microphylla's in limestone no problem.Shade in the afternoon.
You should be quite successful.These plants are from the mountains in Arizona.
