I have been wanting to add that to my collection but have not done so yet. Evolution has worked out well even in the drought last year. Keep us posted.

Art - did you start your Evolution seeds indoors, winter sow or direct sow?

If all goes well I will collect seeds this fall and there will likely be some to share.

If has been a really long time since I have grown farinacea, but I recall they were easy to start indoors.

Seed sown indoors my plants (in ground) have not had any seedlings pop up around them. Unlike my local farinacea's
that have set and sprounted some seed last fall.

That is interesting to know Art. After you mentioned it I went and did a search and got hooked on growing this plant. Farinacea is almost always an annual here in South Jersey so we need to collect seed and so Evolution might be a problem. An old fashioned one whose name won't come volunteered for many years here in my garden. Evolution would be great grown with an orange Agastache of which there many seedlings in the basement.

Do you guys see butterflies using farinacea? I can't remember whether mine were used.

I've seen the Evolution seeds offered online. I did a bit of direct fall sowing of 'Blue Bedder' as an experiment - then, we got torrential rains several times during the winter and my trial area was hit hard (I've since created a French drain in front).

Our southern butterflies like greggii better.I get some monarches,sulfurs,swallowtail and skippers on my S.greggii Monaches of coarse love asclepias curassavica, my queens show up in droves for Conoclinium greggii(formerly Eupatorium greggii).The pipevine swallowtails go for the Lantanas.
