I'm new to gardening and last year I had one salvia. I really enjoyed it so this year I have 11 types and so far only two are a little disappointment for me and they are the bog and knock out purple. The bog is a bit wimpy, long and breaks easy when the wind picks up. The knock out purple have stems but have yet to see a flower.
I have a blue hill, Navajo, red lady, mexican sage, pink forgot name.

I have never grown salvias before and recently bought (half price) 12 blue hills and 3 may nights. It says full sun but you said yours did great in part sun? Any other hints about these plants? thanks

I have had my three Blue Hill's for two years now. They do great in full sun and seem to love the drought. They just continue to thrive and double, so I divide them and give them to friends. I love my salvia. I originally planted them in a circular bed with achillea Nana Ballerina, together it is a nice display. Recently I moved them into a larger bed with many other perennials and planted a Lespedeza in the circular bed instead. I have bought two other Salvia's and won't know until spring/summer how well they'll do. I'm excited though. Once you start growing, it becomes an obsession. Who else is like this?

The Salvia nemerosa types are best grown in USDA Zones 4 - 6 and will take full sun there. In the subtropical southeastern US, they benefit from drainage, humus, and some shade. They definitely do better in Ohio and Massachusetts.
