I also wanted to ask if the color on these pups is normal with Sansevieria trifasciata as a few seem to have almost no bands on them; they're almost solid green. Thanks again.

Gah, I'm flooding my own post, sorry! My first picture didn't post...

There is a tri cultivar called S. t. 'Mein Liebling' that is thought to be hexaploid, but the entire leaf is thick.

Plantomaniac, if I understand your comment you are concerned about the longitudinal length of the bands on your trifasciata, and not the "thickness" of the leaves. In my experience there is a diversity of this condition in trifasciata.

If I had to guess, you could depot your plant and you would see the younger, lighter leaves connected by rhizome to the older, darker leaves. The light leaves will darken soon enough, but they will not show the same stripe pattern as their parents. You could also check other big box stores to see he diversity in striping patterns.

Thanks for the information (you answered my question). I was hoping that maybe I had something a little more "special" than the common S. trifasciata I'm used to seeing at BBS but even not, I've already fallen in love with it's "variances." Most S. trifasciata that I've found in town have very narrow longitudinal length of their bands so this one is a bit unique to me. Thanks again.

I found one exactly like yours today. it was at Home Depot. I have been looking around on the internet for a name. I think it is called Black Coral. I think it is unusual and very pretty. Barbara

Wow, it does look like 'Black Coral' I tried looking online myself to see if it was a particular cultivar of trifasciata but wasn't able to find anything. Thanks for identifying it for me.

My mistake, yours is not the typical trifasciata. I think it is 'Black Coral'. Showing the whole plant really shows how different and beautiful it is. Very nice.
And what causes such variations? Well that is a big secret Thai Growers know. If you throw together a hundred plants growing wild and look over them, You are bound to spot some thing different growing.
