I see in one of the Google hits, there is a blog which refers to Hot Lips as Salvia x jamensis. - No way! It is strictly a Salvia microphylla species, no matter what the size of the leaves.

Robin, do you have any idea how to counteract the propagation of of this mislabeling error?

Rich, you are absolutely right, Hot Lips is a form of microphylla. Concidentally I was at RHS Wisley this morning, and did inform them of the error. Since they had the plant from me, I hope they will correct the error. Unfortunately, the "Plant Finder" 2009-2010 lists Hot Lips as x jamensis! They also had a great specimen of Salvia microphylla 'Robin's Pride' labelled as S. x jamensis 'Hot Lips'!!! Luckily I met David Jewell, to whom I donated both plants, and he promised to rectify the error. Many garden centres in England just name the plant as Salvia 'Hot Lips'. Possibly incorrect, but saves confusion.

Hope someone can bring "Sugar Icing" into the USA.
My greggii's and microphylla's are both suffering through
this drought. Looks like Stampede lavender has bit the dust.
I am having to water once a week just to keep them living.
Hope we don't go to stage 3 drought restrictions.

They had 'Icing Sugar' at the UGA trial gardens in Athens, GA. The day I was there it didn't seem too impressive, but it was later in the day and the bumblebees had had their way with it I'm sure. Here's a link to the UGA ratings for Icing Sugar so far this year.

Wondered what had made the PF decide 'Hot Lips' was x jamensis...now I know! A cock-up. Talking of which, I ordered some 'Icing Sugar' from somebody, mail order, and what I got looks remarkably like S farinacea 'Victoria'! How on earth could those two get mixed up??
