It's not gaillardia. Perhaps eupatorium or Joe Pye Weed? Yarrow? Can't tell from pics.

Hard to say for sure, because the picture's kinda fuzzy, but it's almost definitely an asteraceae. Perhaps an aster or yarrow (depending on the scale of the picture)?

My guess would be yarrow also. If it is, The leaves should have still been there with the sead heads. Most yarrow leaves are similar to carrots/queen anne's lace, while others are a bit heavier, like ferns.
If it was an aster, most likely the leaves would have been long and narrow, maybe with toothed margins.
