Gardening in Shade

Will I be wiped out??!?!!

If it grows in the shade, is perennial and hardy to my zone I have it growing in my woodsey garden. Many of my babies were on the rise and waking up. This past week we got 4 inches of snow with nightly below freezing temperatures. In past years my gardens have done just fine when we dip and get one night of upper 20's, but four in a row with one to two inches of growth? What are your best hunches concerning what will survive? Do I have reason to fret? I have toad lilies, astilbe,ferns,bleeding heart, both pink and fern leaf,Jack in the Pulpit,Solomons seal three varieties,foam flower the list goes on...

Lots of things will return, especially the natives. Some may not return as vigorously because they are using more energy, but they will be back and will store energy to come back full force for next year.

I see this is still on the first page. I guess I should report that everything is up and doing fine. NO loss or damage noted and we are just now hitting temps above 50 at night. It will be a very short growing season. It is amazing how the plants leap when the sun is out.

Everything is a crapshoot at my house. I have a brown thumb and on top of that the winds come shooting around the side of our home like we live in the "Windy City". Also, we have had 3 ice storms in the past two years.
