Gardening in Shade

What would you do with this fence?

Hi all.

Just put in a new fence, which my neighbor and I would like to "hide". It's just over 100 feet long and is almost totally in the shade. It does get some afternoon sun, but not all that much. The only idea I can come up with is Rhodies. What would YOU do with this fence?

You got some thoughtful answers on the Landscape Design forum. I think a mixed border looks best and would help detract from the straightness of the fence. And the nice thing about a mixed border is that you get to pick so many good things and don't have to limit yourself to one or two kinds of plants.

I have seen chain link fence painted a dark color & it helps tone it down.
