Gardening in Shade

I need your help and ideas for shade garden

First.......I believe I'm in zone 4. I'm in southeastern Wisconsin, near Lake Michigan. Would appreciate knowing my exact zone.

Next, I'm in the process of creating a shade garden located under numerous pine trees. Little to no sun. Would like more than just hostas and ferns. Any ideas? And of course when to plant, (spring, fall?) Do I need to amend soil, or leave alone? Thanks for your help in advance.

I would amend the soil. As to plants concentrate on the natives. See my Home page as to what I did.

If you're near Lake Michigan in SE WI you're zone 5, possibly 5b depending how close you are to the lake.
