What kind of wood is the floor and stain color please. Are they five inch planks?

Quarter sawn is very beautiful in a wide plank. There are subtle differences between red and white oak. Yes, your flooring company is correct. White Oak is slightly harder (durable) than red oak however, white oak usually has a less grainy or clear appearance which can show wear. It also has a more yellow/brown tone. My recommendation is to make sure a sample stain is applied on a trial basis on the actual flooring with final coating to see the finished appearance. Best of luck with your project! The flooring used was clear red oak 3 3/4"width. After installation two coats of stain were applied. The color was a custom formula that could be described as a chestnut. We created the flooring stain to have warm brown, red and hints of yellow to blend with the mahogany entry door and staircase. Hope this helps! Best regards, Catherine O'Brien, Grande Interiors

Thanks very much working on a stain color now. The flooring company we hired suggests white oak for a more durable surface. Not sure I agree with that. Your floor is beautiful. We are hoping to get 5" plank, quarter sawn.
