John, thank you again for the maker. I was very excited to use it for the first time today. Unfortinately, I wanted to have come germinated seeds to put in them first. Blame EG for convincing me to pregerminate everything first.

I was going to direct sow my lettuce into soil blocks, but didn't want to mix up a whole batch for 12 blocks. In a few days I'll be making a few dozen. Then the fun experiment can begin. No clue how best to water them. Bottom wicking I assume?

I will be using the standard plastic flats with the clear plastic dome sitting on a bed of heated sand. I am hoping I do not have to water them before sprouting. Once they are sprouted, they will be moved to the GH where I have misters and drippers setup on timers. After about 3 Â 4 weeks in the GH, I will transplant them into 4" pots. We will see what happens.

EG, how much time do you have between seeing the first signs of sprouts and getting them covered. It seems to me that you do not want to cover any tiny leaves when you plant them. Right now I am a little concerned about having two variables at the same time i.e. pre sprouting/soil blocks.

John - I cover them before the seed leaves appear. You've got to stay on your toes, though.
