Where Does Everyone Order From?

I'm just wondering where everyone orders their seeds/plants from. I'm getting ready to place my seed catalogue order and thought it'd be interesting to hear the good/bad comments about certain companies.

I've always ordered from Gurneys, but then I'm a noob. One question I have is that everyone seems to talk in the scientific name of things, but these aren't listed in my seed catalogue. That clued me in that maybe you all are ordering from another place.

Thanks Much!

Kat

i've ordered from Territorial, also heard that Johnny's is really good. Most of my seed stock or unusual stuff came from exchanges, are things I save from year to year, or are ordinary things I where just use the cheap seed packets and fill in gaps from the regular seed racks.

I order from Burpee, Tomato Growers Supply, Baker Creek, and any others where something special I'm looking for is to be found. I also like to shop Target, Walmart, Franks, and our local farm and feed store for seeds, they usually have great sales!

This year is my first year starting almost everything from seed, so I made a few orders - Territorial, Tomato Growers Supply, and a little place called Heirloom Acres.

I recommend the third place if you need a lot of different seed, because most of their seed packets are 95 cents - 1.50.

I'm having some germ problems on squash from Territorial, and pepper seed from TGS, but on the whole I think they're both pretty good companies. The germ problems may be due to my methods, I'm going to direct-sow the squash next week and see if I have better luck. TGS has a great selection of tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.

Some other ones I've heard good things about are Johnny's, The Cook's Garden, Seeds of Change, and Tomatofest (100's of heirloom tomato varieties).

I order my onion transplants from Dixondale.

I get my seeds from www.seedstrust.com they have many varieties for high altitude gardening. most of their seeds are fast growing varieties, so you can harvest your produce faster.which some of you square footers might appreciate.and their seeds are all organic or heirloom so you don't have to worry about growing genetically modified food. this year they were out of my tomatoes so they sent me a different variety for free. i also ordered from seeds of change but their sales lady didn't have any answers for the simple questions i had

We have a farm and home store where I live, that buys seeds in bulk, and then packeges them for individual sale. If all you want is common vegetable seeds (i.e. French Breakfast, Cherry Belle radishes or Buttercrunch Lettuce, etc), you can pick them up for 30 cents to 40 cents per packet. They are very generous packets too. I'd say they have about 50 different vegetable varieties for sale.

I recently placed an order with ContainerSeeds.com. Their selection is small but they specialize in plants that do well in containers (hence the name). I figure that they might do equally well in a SFG style garden. I haven't planted them yet so I can't comment as to their quality.

I really like the seeds from Pinetree Garden Seeds. They have a really great variety and good prices.

I second the cheer for Pinetree Seeds. They are among the few catalogs with still reasonable prices. I do also order from Tomato Growers Supply company for their incredible selection of tomatoes. Used to order a lot from Vesey's and had very good results, but they are pricing themselves out of my range. Have occasionally ordered from Jung's.

I third Pine Tree, and Johnny's is also good.

I really like Pinetree Seeds; small packets small prices and fabulous vigor and flavor. I also do the seed swap here on GW and have gotten wonderful results and been able to try lots of new things. Besides that, I like Seed Savers although they are more expensive, you can get some unique varieties.
