DH and I are housesitting for DD in the CA high desert . We want to do flower gardening in their planters but are clueless about what to plant. (We're from the Pacific NW.)

One area where we would be planting receives morning sun (it has a brick wall behind it). The other is a planter with the house behind it and is on the south side of the house. It also gets the morning sun.

Any suggestions for easy-to-grow flowers for these areas would be appreciated - plus intitial care (watering, fertilizing, etc.). We'll be here another 6 days.
