Square Foot Gardening

Beds are done!, how long before planting?

I am finally done filling my beds. All i have to do know is divide the squares and provide lateral supports for my tomato plans.

How long before i can plant in the beds?. We had a nice raining day today here in RI and should stop by wednesday (at least thats what the local weather man says).

I think i should be able to plant wednesday since the soil is nicely settle and wet.

Anything i should know before doing so?.

Another question, i bought some bone/blood meal, and seed weed organic fertilizer, are this safe to use in the mel's mix?

P.S. I could not believe how loose and light weight the mel's mix is!. I can not wait for the results. It was hard work mixing the mix all by myself but it was well worth it

I let my beds settle for about 48 hours before planting but that was because I was friggan exhausted as much as anything. They'll settle about 15-20% over the next week or so but that shouldn't effect your planting. Just make sure you're well past your last frost date and go for it.

I planted last monday and just as everything's starting to sprout I'm getting hit with a frost tonight - even though our typical last frost date was over three weeks ago. :cries:

If I were "way down south" ;) there in RI I would be wondering if it was too late to plant lettuce and spinach, or at least putting them in now (I have some sprouting here in Maine). Check those frost dates, but I would think you have lots of planting options now or very soon.
