we just finished putting in 3 new beds measuring 4 x12 made of cinder blocks. All my beds are made of cinder blocks now. I have found this to be a wonderful material as the bricks are 8 inches tall. Besides having the rebar in some of the cinder holes for the pvc I have placed dirt in some and that is where I grow corn, onions and some herbs.

We have built an asparagus bed out of stones on our property. The footprint is 6 feet by 26 feet. The interior dimension though is 4 feet x 24 feet. The stones take up quite a bit of space. If you are trying to maximize space, this is definitely something to consider. On the plus side, the stones are easy to sit on (at least some of them) when harvesting.

Wouldn't, also, stone hold heat longer keeping the soil warmer during the evening hours? Hm, if so, would that affect (in a good way maybe?) growth of the plants?
