I have no personal experience with using Borax, but, from what I read, it is important to only apply just the correct amount to do the job (which can vary with site conditions). Too little won't do the job, and too much can cause significant browning or even kill your grass. Also, the Borax will remain in the soil for a very long time.

Weed-B-Gon Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis Killer (different chemical mix than other Weed-B-Gon products) would be a whole lot easier and probably less environmentally damaging to your yard. The product is relatively safe for you and the environment, when used according to directions.

Below is a link to an article that says pretty much what I said, but goes into more detail. It primarily recommends another herbicide, but also recommends triclopyr, the ingredient in Weed-B-Gon Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis Killer. The W-B-G CCO has some application advantages over the alternatives mentioned in the article.

Brandon - can the Weed-B-Gon Chickweed be used in beds around shrubs?

Only if you don't get it on the shrubs. Triclopyr (the active ingredient) is a selective, systemic herbicide used to kill woody and broadleaf plants.
