Need help with our kitchen!

Ok, so we really liked the swatch of this color, but after it got on the walls, I'm a little unsure. I think it's a great color, but we're back and forth in terms of what to do with the kitchen from here. Sometimes the ricepaddy green on the walls looks VERY bright. We definitely need something around the door leading to the back patio and we're looking for suggestions. Really, this house had a country feel and I want to tone that down, but it's tough with the oak cabinets. Anything can be changed except the wall color (well, we can change that, but we JUST got it done). I would like to change the countertops eventually, but would rather not change the cabinets if I don't have to. I like the idea of a backsplash. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I like the fresh leafy green you have selected. It goes well with your cabinets and counter tops. Is your back entry door the same bright white as the other interior doors in your home? It appears to be more off white in the photo. I would suggest an update of the builder grade light fixture over the table and a lower hanging height. This schoolhouse pendant with gray banding would be a nice addition.

One thing that's really contributing to the country feel of your space is all of the oak molding. It would be a lengthy process, but painting all of it white would really refresh & update your kitchen. If budget allows, upgrading to stone countertops would also make a drastic difference. Some granite options that would look great in your space are: Blue Pearl, Steel Gray, & Colonial Gold. A backsplash cannot be decided until you make your countertop selection.

I agree with michigammemom about the light fixture/ceiling fan. It really adds to that country feel, so it should be changed to something more modern. For your back door, try hanging floor length curtains in each of the windows flanking the door. Maybe choose a fabric with a fun graphic print--something a little contemporary. It will really make that back wall more of a focal point.

Window treatments: green. Door: green. Green is good with that wood colour. And, will make wall look LESS green.

Thanks for the comments. I really like that light fixture you posted, michigammemom. I agree that an updated fixture will definitely help. I also agree that all the oak is giving it that country feel. I guess I'm hoping other updates can lessen it a little more and make it feel more modern, but in the end, I might just end up painting it all white. We were thinking of replacing the door with something with etched glass.

For the curtains, would you suggest two panels flanking each window (so 4 total), or just one panel on each side of the door?

Stone countertops is definitely going to happen in the near future. Thanks for all the suggestions!
