Is there a chance that they will grow? Can a Hydrangeas be cut back to the ground and come back?

The cold weather here usually kills my hydrangea down to ground level but it always comes back. There is hope.

You might want to clean up what's left of the branches a little with a sharp knife. Other than that, I don't think you will have to do anything to ensure almost a 100% chance they will be fine.

I was out in the yard today and I am pleased to report that all my chewed off oakleafs have buds on them!! Looks like the "natural" pruning the rabbits gave them might actually help.

A little red pepper powder will keep the rabbits out, renew after rain.

I buy a large box of Blood Meal at Wal Mart to keep the rabbits away. It has always worked well, and is great for my roses too.

I agree that blood meal works in some cases, but I would not have used it because I would never have thought that they would eat the hydrangeas. Maybe I did not realize that they were rabbit food! Rabbits chewed the top off a baby fig that I carefully nurtured in a pot all summer and then planted in the fall. I am hoping that it will recover just like the hydrangeas. Someone told me that deervick (spelling??) worked as a deterent for both deer and rabbits. Anyone have any experience with it?
