The only things I've planted this month are radishes (in a shaded area of my SFG), little onions and bush beans. They germinated very quickly and seem to be doing well. However, note that the radishes and onions are companion plants for me, being planted around other things. My hope was that the onions would protect some of my squash plants from squash bugs, of which I have a bumper crop!

We're in the SF Bay Area too. What a weird season it's been. It stayed cool most of the summer, we had a recent hot spell, and lately it's been cool again.

We also have a few squares in our garden that need to be planted. Since it's near the end of July, we're going to plant seeds for cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. I may replant some lettuce and spinach too. We have a lot of carrots in the ground but now is a good time to plant them as well. Last year we had good luck with the baby varieties. They grew fast and produced a large crop.

We plant flowers on some of the squares to entice bees and butterflies. You can sow seeds for cool weather plants now and into August. I like calendula, primrose, forget-me-nots (plant these outside the garden as they self-seed here), pansies & violas, and stock.

Last year we harvested lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots well into winter.

sfjon, think back on what you produced early on that you'd like to have more of, and replant it. Or search around the online catalogs, they all have their fall editions out now, and get new ideas there. Garlic and leeks will overwinter....
